On January 12, members of the Romanian and Moldovan communities in Luxembourg reunited at Brasserie Le Neumunster, in Luxembourg City’s Grund neighbourhood, for an exclusive New Year jazz concert performed by Geta Burlacu, Petru Haruta and Ovidiu Pana.
The Moldovan singer and her band performed a number of the world’s international jazz repertoire, but also mesmerised the audience with some Romanian traditional Christmas carols and latino beats.
Singing for the first time in the Grand Duchy, Geta Burlacu, who represented the Republic of Moldova in the 2008 Eurovision music contest, showed off her singing skills, improvising and adapting well known music tracks to the special occasion.
The event proved to be very successful and so marked the beginning of a (hopefully) long and fruitful activity for the non-profit cultural organisation ”Connexions Moldavie” whose President Violeta Gritcan recently moved to Luxembourg from Paris.
On the night, participants were also invited to taste some Moldovan wine, courtesy of the Moldovan Embassy in Belgium, represented at the event by Ambassador Mihai Gribincea.
Both Violeta Gritcan and Ambassador Gribincea delivered speeches before the audience, explaining the existing connections between Moldova and Luxembourg, while wishing everyone a Happy New Year.
